April 28, 2024 Not sure how our paws crossed and how thankful I am they did! Like anyone reading this, our babied are the best ever! Let me explain a bit. February 4, 2023 We have had German Shepherds as part of our family for more than 30 years. We did a lot of research before deciding to purchase our next dog at Southwest Shepherds. We are glad we did. Our puppy (Jack) is now 5 months old. He shows the three characteristics of a GSD that are critical. He must be calm, confident and intelligent. Without any one of these three things your dog can be a real disappointment. Jack embodies all these things. Having been around the breed for more than three decades we know the difference. Some of these characteristics can be nurtured by a loving owner who is a skilled trainer, but only to a very minor extent. Breeding is critical. Absent solid breeding a GSD will potentially not have these critical characteristics. Southwest Shepherd's thoughtful approach to breeding ensures that your GSD will have them. Yes, they have to be nurtured by you but if not present in the dog's breeding you will be disappointed. All puppies are cute. Jack is now 5 months old and I can clearly see the superior breeding. He is supremely calm, confident and intelligent. Not only that, he is stunningly beautiful. We get compliments everywhere he goes. I hope Kitty and Marc will post the pictures and videos I have provided of Jack. They will demonstrate what quality their breeding program produces. Additionally, it will give you an idea of what you might expect of your dog at 5 months. GSDs require good owners. Ensure you understand completely how to train and socialize your new family member. January 10, 2024 Valor adapts well and is the best friend anyone could have. Took him to the vet today for shots and check up. We have one more appointment 2-7. Today he weighs 40 lbs, his ears are always fully up. My granddaughter, Sofia (whom you met) works him and plays with him. She runs around with him, they play tag. I just can’t stop being so impressed with your dogs’ bloodlines. Every day Valor does something that is so incredible! I’ve had many German Shepherd puppies in my life, but all of them put together doesn’t match Valor. At such a young age he is a thinker. I can see him problem solve. He doesn’t back down to anything. If something isn’t working for him, he stops, thinks and tries something else until he succeeds. At his age already he is potty trained, crate trained, by verbal command he goes to the one I ask him to.( there are 3 in different places of the house.) He knows sit, down, leash trained and stay back. He can search and find everything I’ve tried so far. Including having someone else touching and hiding an object. We hide things outside, while he is inside and inside while he is outside. He doesn’t stop until he finds the object. I don’t treat or food reward him. Just Love and rubs. Pam Tucson
October 16, 2023 Tecolote is loving his first trip to Baja. Been a HUGE hit with everyone and all the military at the checkpoints want to meet him. No barking in the car, just sleeps and just discovered how much fun other dogs can be on this trip. Next stop the ocean in Loreto, Baja Sur! Bauer , AZ
June 30, 2023 We continued to do the puppy classes at petco with the trainer just to have her there and expose her to do much. She loves my granddaughter who is just two. July 7, 2022 We have two of the dogs from Southwest German Shepherds. They are the most amazing dogs. Marc and Kitty know what they are doing. These dogs are not only beautiful, but their temperaments are phenomenal. So calm and friendly, confident and smart. We’ve always loved German Shepherds but if you get one from the wrong breeder, as we did many years ago, you will know why this type of breeding is so important - and especially in a breed like a German Shepherd. August 27, 2019 Josh has been a great dog. Easiest pup I've ever had. Super calm. He is afraid of the trash truck and his brothers barking (chihuahua barks are the worst so I don’t blame him). He runs to the other side of the house or to us. Beyond that training has been easy and fun. Teething is painful for all of us haha.
